5-Day Private Sahara Desert Tour From Marrakech to Merzouga

DESCRIPTION
5-Day Private Sahara Desert Tour From Marrakech to Merzouga
Day 1 — Marrakech → High Atlas → Aït Ben Haddou → Ouarzazate → Valley of Roses → Dadès
Your journey begins as we leave Marrakech at sunrise, heading into the winding roads of the High Atlas. The ascent toward the Tizi n’Tichka Pass offers a beautiful transition from the city to the mountains — terraced villages, dramatic peaks, and the first glimpses of Amazigh life.
Along the way, we stop at a small women’s argan cooperative, where you can learn how this precious oil is made using ancestral techniques.
We continue to the legendary Ksar of Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO treasure and one of Morocco’s most iconic ksour — a place where the earth seems to glow. Many travelers recognize it from films and series, but nothing compares to standing in its silent lanes.
After lunch, we drive toward Ouarzazate, the “Gateway to the Desert,” then cross the fertile Skoura palm grove and the fragrant Valley of Roses before reaching the quiet landscapes of Dadès Valley.
Dinner and night in a charming guesthouse surrounded by the canyon walls.
Day 2 — Dadès → Todra Gorges → Erfoud → Merzouga (Erg Chebbi)
After breakfast, we follow the Dadès River toward one of the most impressive natural sites in Morocco: the Todra Gorges. Towering cliffs frame a narrow passage where local shepherds and climbers often pass by — a beautiful meeting point between nature and Amazigh life.
After lunch, we continue to Erfoud, the town of fossils and desert stone, then head directly toward the silence of the dunes.
In Merzouga, you’ll be welcomed with mint tea before meeting your camel caravan. As you ride across the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi, the sun begins to set — a moment that stays with travelers for life.
Your evening unfolds in a desert camp, with dinner prepared over the fire and soft Berber music under a vast sky of stars.
Day 3 — Sahara Exploration → Nomad Families → Khamlia → Hassi Labied Oasis
You may choose to wake early for another sunrise — it’s worth it. After returning to Merzouga by camel, your driver-guide takes you on a full exploration of the region.
We visit:
An old kohl (eyeliner) mine, a remnant of desert trade routes
A nomad family living in traditional tents — always a humbling, warm encounter, shared over Berber tea
The village of Khamlia, home to Gnaoua musicians whose rhythms come from deep African traditions
The Hassi Labied oasis, where channels of water feed palm groves that have sustained families for generations
Dinner and overnight in a comfortable guesthouse in Merzouga village.
Day 4 — Merzouga → Draa Valley → Anti-Atlas → Ouarzazate
After breakfast, we begin our return toward the Atlas Mountains, passing through the vast, palm-filled Draa Valley, one of the most historic caravan routes in Morocco. Mud-brick kasbahs, quiet villages, and endless lines of date palms create a landscape that feels timeless.
We cross the rugged Anti-Atlas before reaching Ouarzazate, where you’ll settle into a peaceful riad or hotel for the night.
Day 5 — Ouarzazate → Kasbah Telouet → High Atlas → Marrakech
This morning, we visit the Kasbah Taourirt or the Atlas Film Studios — both central to the cinematic heritage of Ouarzazate.
We then follow a beautiful, less-traveled road toward the Kasbah Telouet, once the stronghold of the Glaoui family. Its carved ceilings and painted salons tell stories of a different era in Moroccan history.
Crossing the High Atlas once more, we descend toward Marrakech, arriving in the late afternoon — your desert journey complete, but the memories glowing like the dunes at sunset.
