Sidi Chamharouch is known for its pilgrimage and legends

Sidi Chamharouch is a sacred pilgrimage site for Muslims that houses the tomb of a marabout (holy man) revered by locals. The shrine, recognizable by its large white-painted boulder, is off-limits to non-Muslims. According to the legend, Sidi Chamharouch possessed mystical powers, able to heal ailments and bring luck and blessings to those who came to pray there.

Sidi Chamarouch is a tranquil haven for adventurers on the Toubkal Ascent

Sidi Chamharouch is a rest point for trekkers after several hours of walking from Imlil. The village offers small shops and cafes where you can drink and regain strength before tackling the rest of the day's ascent. Your mountain guides and muleteers will take the break with you here, contributing to the friendly and authentic atmosphere of the location.

A Gateway between the valley and the summit

Sidi Chamharouch is often seen as a place of transition between the lush valley and the more arid, rocky landscapes that await adventurers at higher altitudes. When you leave this village, you will continue to the Toubkal refuge, where you will spend the night before the final ascent to the summit.

Practical tips for travellers

  • Respect the local culture. For example, avoid entering areas restricted to non-Muslims and considered sacred.

  • Be ready for the altitude: At this elevation, it's important to stay well-hydrated and take your time to avoid the effects of altitude sickness.

  • Bring snacks: Although cafes are available on-site, it is recommended that you bring some snacks to keep your energy up throughout the hike. Your guide will ensure you don't need anything and will care for you.
